Design of Purpose for Middle India by Shashank Mani Tripathi
The India of small towns and villages, Middle India is rising. Shashank will talk about the need for a purpose led design, in all aspects of life for Middle India. This new frontier for designers in our country requires an intimate understanding of the real India, local culture, traditions and vernacular language. It also has to connect with both local and national purposes. These 240 Tier 2 and Tier 3 districts are no longer poor, neither are they very rich. Within only 30% of the total districts they constitute around 60% of our population; COVID has further focused attention on this segment.
Design of purpose will not only ease the lives of millions it will also redefine what we call aspirational today. Done properly such a design effort at our 75th year of independence will power India forward, and provide lessons for other emerging nations.

Creative Tech by Fabin Rasheed
After mainstream design education, we creative folks find it hard fitting
into a regular day job. We like to express ourselves beyond what is
required by a business. But can we create something for the enjoyment of
it, rather than for a purpose and yet earn from it? Or can we help others
create such experiences by creating tools for the purpose? And what if
that is your day job? Will work then turn into play?

I am a Design Activist! by Kelley Cheng
Most designers are familiar with producing design as a service, but this can get draining or meaningless after many years of practice. However, it feels different if you are designing with a sense of purpose, and there is a bigger reason behind what you do. Designers who suffer from creative burnout can perhaps rethink their role as a designer and how they can allow their design to serve more than what it is, and to bring meaning and passion back into doing what they love. Kelley Cheng, a veteran designer in Singapore, shares her journey as a designer and her parallel role as a design activist.
