PROF. UDAY ATHAVANKAR

Alumnus of JJ college of architecture, he worked as an architect for four years before switching over to Industrial Design in 1970. He studied Industrial Design at Institute of Design, Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago.
For 50 years he was actively involved in design education, design research and design related consulting to companies. His recent projects deal with culture specific localization of products and technologies for global companies like NCR, Unilever, Nokia and Samsung entering markets in India and Asia pacific region with new products.
He was honoured by the President of India for his design of India specific low cost ATM for NCR. Recently his contributions were recognized by the Association of Designers of India (ADI) with honorary membership.
He has extensively published and lectured nationally and internationally on his research areas. He is also on the advisory board of several international research journals
Retired recently from Industrial Design Centre (IDC), IIT Bombay, he has served as Head, Industrial Design Centre, Dean, IIT Bombay and later as a Member, Governing Council, IIT Bombay.
